These are herbal formulas for skin conditions. We recommend that a sachet of the herbs be ground to a fine powder and added by the client to a base cream. They can experiment with the amount of herbal powder they add, starting with a relatively small quantity.

Indications
Acne simplex, acne rosacea, boils, sores, infected wounds and physical trauma
Formula
- Hu Zhang, Da Huang and Huang Bai are bitter and cold, and effectively clear heat, resolve dampness and promote blood movement.
- Jiang Huang (turmeric) is warm and promotes the circulation of qi and blood, preventing the cold herbs from causing stagnation. Bai Zhi is also warm, vents the exterior and expels dampness and promotes movement of qi and fluids.
- Cang Zhu dries dampness and is a classic combinations (Er Miao San) with Huang Bai to clear damp-heat, and in combination with Tian Hua Fen they relieve toxicity, expel pus and reduce swelling.
- Chen Pi and Hou Po transform dampness and regulate the qi
Application
- Traditionally Jin Huang Gao is made by grinding the herbs and mixing them with beeswax and sesame oil. It can also be made into a paste or plaster using tea water, honey, fresh juice from Ye Ju Hua (Flos Chrysanthemi Indici), sesame oil, wine, aloe cream or petroleum jelly.
- For hot swellings it is best with green tea and/or a tea from Ju Hua (Flos Chrysanthemi Indic).
- To encouraging the expulsion of pus use a tea from Chinese scallions to make a paste, or yellow wine can be used to soften carbuncles and expel pus.
- With open toxic sores with pus, sprinkle the powder onto the lesions and cover with a clean dressing; mixing the powder with black vinegar will help if the infection is deeper.
- Sesame oil can be used as the carrier for burns or lacquer sores or for herpes sores.
